About Us

Situated within the village of Thornton Cleveleys, we provide a wide range of medical services for local people, from one-off problems to longer-term illnesses.

The practice is a member of NHS Fylde and Wyre Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), the organisation responsible for buying high quality, safe and effective health services to meet the needs of local people.

We are also registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) under the Health and Social Care Act 2008. The CQC regularly inspect the practice to ensure that we are meeting national standards of quality and safety.

Welcome to Beechwood Surgery

Beechwood Surgery first opened in May 1989 with Dr C S Fulton as the sole practitioner and his wife Nikki Fulton as the Practice Nurse.

In 2009 Dr V G Chandrasekar joined the practice as a long term locum and in February 2013 became a partner in the practice.  Following Dr Fulton’s retirement in 2014 Dr Chandrasekar has continued the practice.  Dr Evans and Dr Khan joined the practice as the long term Locums in 2021.

Dr Chandrasekar has a special interest in Orthopaedic medicine and surgery.

With other members of the Primary Health Care Team we are able to provide a full range of general medical care for all ages, whilst maintaining a friendly personal service for every patient.

We are a happy team and hope that you enjoy being part of our practice.

For surgery times please ask at reception when an appropriate appointment will be made.

Requests for home visits

Should be made, wherever possible, before 10am and should only be requested if the patient really is not well enough to come to surgery.  The receptionist will ask for as many details as is possible for the Doctor to assess the urgency of your request.

Repeat Prescriptions

You should request your medication at least 3 days before it is needed and allow 48 hours for your prescription to be processed.  Our prescription line is open Monday – Friday 9 am – 1pm.  You can order your medication by using your repeat slip, attached to your current prescription or by arrangement with your local chemist.  You can also post your repeat slip or written request in the box at reception or through the normal postal service.  Alternatively, you can order your prescription on-line through patient access or the GP App.

Booking Appointments

We only have a fixed number of appointments to offer and have to ensure that our patients get the appointments they need rather than want. Our receptionists have been carefully trained by the doctors here to ask questions about what you need. Please help them to help you by answering their questions as more often than not, they will be able to find you the soonest appointment. You can politely decline however.

Non Urgent GP Appointments

Most non-urgent matters can wait until the next available non-urgent appointment which can be around two weeks ahead , but if you feel it cannot wait until the first available non urgent appointment then you can ask to be put onto the triage list to speak to a doctor. He/she will decide upon the most appropriate appointment for your issue. The doctor’s decision is final however and is based on medical need, not convenience.

Urgent GP Appointments

Please be aware that we do not offer a walk in service. Urgent on the day requests must be made by phone. If you walk in, you will be asked to return home and await a call from the on call doctor.

Extended Access/Hours

Appointments are available Monday – Friday evening, 6.30 pm – 8.00 pm at one of Wyre Integrated Network (WIN) PCN sites.  These are Beechwood Surgery, The Village Practice (Thornton) Queensway Medical Centre or Lockwood Surgery (Poulton).  WIN PCN also offers appointments at Beechwood Surgery on a Saturdays 9.00am – 5.00pm.

GP, Nurse and pharmacist appointments are within this service. Please speak to reception to arrange an appointment.

Services and Clinics

We offer chronic disease clinics i.e. Asthma, Diabetes, Heart disease, Hypertension etc, Minor Surgery, Contraception and Cervical Smears.

Dr Chandrasekar carries out Medical Examinations for employment and insurance. (these are classed as private work and not NHS and usually attract a fee) These appointments are specially organised when the doctor has availability outside of his NHS clinics.

All the above services and consultations are carried out by appointment only.  Please contact our Reception team to make an appointment or to obtain further information on our services.

If you cannot keep your appointment for any reason please let reception know as soon as possible in order for us to re-allocate your appointment.

We are committed to giving you the best possible service and this can be best achieved by working together.  Please help us to help you.

You will be regarded as a partner in the care and attention you receive and you will be treated with courtesy and respect at all times, irrespective of your ethnic origin, religious beliefs, personal attributes or the nature of your healthcare.  We continue to recognise and support the NHS zero tolerance scheme.

We adhere to the Freedom of Information Act 2000 in making information available to you.  All information will be reviewed at regular intervals and we will monitor its effectiveness.  Please ask at reception for more information.

Parking is available to the rear of the surgery for patients to use whilst attending the surgery but should be mindful that this is at the owners own risk and the surgery cannot accept any responsibility for damage sustained while your vehicle is parked.
